DUNDEE TOWNSHIP

REGULAR MEETING

SEPTEMBER 11, 2007

  

The regular meeting of the Dundee Township Board was held Tuesday September 11, 2007 at the Dundee Township Hall.  Supervisor Uhl called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.  Present were Supervisor Uhl, Clerk Lupu, Treasurer Goetz and Trustees:  Larson, Lazette, Williams and Juckette.  Approximately nine citizens were in attendance.

Motion by Trustee Juckette and supported by Treasurer Goetz to approve the agenda as printed.  Motion carried.

Motion by Trustee Williams and supported by Trustee Larson to approve the minutes of the regular meeting held Tuesday August 28, 2007 and the minutes of the public hearing and special meeting held Wednesday August 29, 2007 and waive the reading of such.  Motion carried.

 

CORRESEPONDENCE

3.      Building Inspector permits issued August 10 through September 6, 2007

 

Motion by Trustee Larson and supported by Clerk Lupu to accept the correspondence and place on file.  Motion carried.

 

PUBLIC COMMENT

Resident Mrs. Janice Simon spoke regarding a recent notification received from the Dundee Township Ordinance Officer regarding a proposed landfill located on their property.  The Simon’s received approval in 2004 from a representative from DEQ then in August of 2007 received a notice ordering them to cease and desist the operation.  This landfill operation is used for the storage of asphalt millings that can be used at a later date.  Supervisor Uhl will contact DEQ for a status of the operation.

 

OFFICIAL REPORTS

The estimate for the Alford Road project and the fall stoning projects have not been received from the road commission.  If the road commission is unable to complete the projects this fall Stoneco will be approached for bidding.

 

Assessing Department

Assessing Assistant Christine Fricke successfully completed her level II training.  A completion of a commercial property card is necessary to obtain her certification.  A motion to dismiss will be filed regarding the Tecumseh Products tax tribunal.

   Building Department

The reviewing of permits is continuing with potential board action necessary for some of the expired permits.

 

Trustee Williams

The next Planning Commission meeting will be held Wednesday September 19, 2007 beginning at 7:00 p.m.

 

Trustee Lazette

The new Pierce Pumper Truck was delivered and will be outfitted with all the necessary equipment needed to be added to the fleet.

The following are fire runs reported for August 2007:

Total calls for August is 53.  Statistics from this date last year versus this date this year show the fire department has responded to an additional 60 fire runs currently this year.

 

Trustee Juckette

Construction on Bigelow Road has been completed and calls have been received regarding the need for additional guard rail.  Supervisor Uhl will contact the road commission for clarification.  A recommendation letter will also need to be sent to request the scheduling of phase II of Bigelow Road that will stretch from the S-curves to Plank Road.

 

Treasurer Goetz

The final day for tax collection is Saturday.  The Treasurer’s office will not be open on Saturday however; United Bank & Trust and LaSalle Bank also accept tax payments.

 

NEW BUSINESS

The township insurance coverage is due for renewal.  Michigan Community Underwriters agent John Gandolfi currently provides coverage for the township.  Packets listing the coverage involved and costs were supplied by Mr. Gandolfi.  This insurance agency was formed in 1985.  A brief presentation was given outlining liability coverage for comprehensive municipal, public officials, cemetery, autos, buildings, equipment coverage and a coverage extension endorsement.

The second presentation was given by Mr. Ryan Timiney an agent for Selective Insurance through Knabusch Insurance Agency.  This insurance offers monetary limits of coverage and additional coverage through an umbrella policy.

Board members will make a decision at the next regular board meeting.

A draft of a noise ordinance was presented to the board.  Trustee Williams voiced a concern regarding the section of the draft that pertains to race tracks and other racing types of noise.  Supervisor Uhl will contact the attorney for alternate language.

  

OTHER BOARD COMMENTS

Additional fire hall location prospects are being investigated.  Property that is approximately five acres will be considered.

 

Motion by Trustee Lazette and supported by Clerk Lupu to pay bills in the amount of $7,554.36.  Motion carried.

 

Motion by Clerk Lupu and supported by Trustee Lazette to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried.  Time of adjournment was 9:55 p.m.
