DUNDEE TOWNSHIP

REGULAR MEETING

APRIL 22, 2008

 

The regular meeting of the Dundee Township Board was held Tuesday April 22, 2008 at the Dundee Township Hall.  Supervisor Uhl called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Present were Supervisor Uhl, Clerk Lupu, Treasurer Goetz and Trustees:  Larson, Winkelman, Juckette and Lazette.

Motion by Clerk Lupu and supported by Trustee Larson to accept the agenda with a revision under new business adding line item # 4 Proclamation 04-08 Motorcycle Awareness Month.  Motion carried.

Motion by Trustee Larson and supported by Trustee Winkelman to approve the minutes of the regular meeting held April 8, 2008 and waive the reading of such.  Motion carried.

Motion by Trustee Juckette and supported by Trustee Lazette to accept the treasurer's report for March 2008.  Motion carried.

Motion by Trustee Juckette and supported by Trustee Lazette to nominate Mr. John Moskwa for the 2008 Michigan Minuteman Award with the luncheon fee of $15.00 per person approved for any board member and nominee attending.  Motion carried.

Motion by Trustee Juckette and supported by Trustee Larson to accept the correspondence and place on file.  Motion carried.

OFFICIAL REPORTS

Supervisor Uhl

Communication with the road commission is continuing for spring and fall projects.

Assessing Department

House Bill 4215 is continuing through the state government.  This bill will allow Michigan residents who have purchased a residence in the state of Michigan and are unable to sell their previous residence a conditional rescission of principle residence exemption.  The bill has terms and conditions that must be met in order to qualify, but potentially can lower the taxes of the home that has not sold.  The deadline to qualify is May 1, 2008.

Trustee Lazette

A planning commission was held April 16, 2008 and discussion occurred regarding wind turbines and outside furnaces.  Further discussion will be held at the next meeting on May 21, 2008.

Trustee Juckette

Alford Road has maintained excellent drainage since the maintenance applied to the road last fall.

Trustee Winkelman

New locks will be installed on the fire department doors and the mapping system will be completed within one week.  West Shore Services have not removed the siren to date.

 

 

Clerk Lupu

School ballots were delivered on Friday and 160 ballots have been sent out.  The partisan petition deadline is 4:00 p.m. on May 13, 2008.

OLD BUSINESS

Discussion occurred at the village council meeting on April 15, 2008 regarding the joint fire authority.  Council members agreed to dissolve the committee formed to investigate a joint fire authority with the township.  The township board was in agreement with the decision of the council and will be pursuing a new fire hall under township jurisdiction.

NEW BUSINESS

The 2008 Mayfly Music Festival will be held June 20th and 21st.  Motion by Trustee Larson and supported by Trustee Winkelman to approve spending $250.00 towards supplies or purchases related to the Music Festival.  Upon a voice vote Trustee Juckette was opposed all other board members were in favor.  Motion carried.

The assessing, treasurer's and clerk's office accumulate large quantities of confidential information that must be shredded.  Smaller models of shredders have been purchased in the past and are not equipped to handle the documents.  Bids were received from two companies that are bonded for shredding confidential information.  Motion by Treasurer Goetz and supported by Trustee Larson to approve a contract with Lott Industries for the shredding of township documents.  Motion carried.

A feasibility study will need to be performed on a site that is being considered for the new fire hall.  Motion by Trustee Lazette and supported by Treasurer Goetz to approve a feasibility study by John Kohler Architects for potential fire department property at a cost not to exceed $800.00.  Motion carried.

An area resident has requested the approval of a proclamation promoting the month of May as Motorcycle Awareness Month.  Motion by Trustee Juckette and supported by Clerk Lupu to approve proclamation 04-08 Designating May as Motorcycle Awareness Month.  Roll call vote as follows:  Trustee Winkelman yea, Treasurer Goetz yea, Trustee Lazette yea, Trustee Juckette yea, Trustee Larson yea, Clerk Lupu yea and Supervisor Uhl yea.  Motion carried.

Motion by Trustee Lazette and supported by Trustee Winkelman to pay the bills in the amount of $14,125.75.  Motion carried.

Motion by Clerk Lupu and supported by Trustee Lazette to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried.  Time of adjournment was 7:55 p.m.
