MAY 26, 2020


The Regular Meeting of the Dundee Township Board was held Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at the Dundee Township Hall.  Supervisor Uhl called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.   The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.  Present were:  Supervisor Uhl, Clerk Salenbien, Treasurer Sontag, Trustees:  Gary Lazette, CJ Horkey, Travis Horkey and Ken Jaworski.  Trustee CJ moved to approve the meeting agenda and Treasurer Sontag supported.  Motion carried.  Trustee CJ moved to approve the minutes from the Regular Meeting held, May 12, 2020 and waive the reading of such.  Trustee Travis supported.  Motion carried.  Clerk Salenbien reported the item under Correspondence, “MTA Dues” would need to be acted on by the board.  The board discussed the benefits of belonging to the Michigan Township Association and the costs.  Clerk Salenbien reported they had gone up $373.00 from last year.  After discussions, Trustee CJ moved to approve paying the Annual MTA dues of $5,990.05 and approve the Correspondence and place on file.  Treasurer Sontag supported.  Motion carried.      





Assessing Department:  Supervisor Uhl reported the new Assessing Firm, Renius & Renius will begin June 1st and will be in the Dundee Township office one day a week on Tuesdays.  Their first day in the office will be June 2nd


Building Department:  None

Trustee C.J.:  None


Trustee Lazette:  None


Trustee Travis Horkey: Trustee Travis reported the sand has been spread at Oakgrove Cemetery.  Trustee Travis reported he attended the “Zoom” meeting with the County Commissioners regarding the Fire Chief’s Association letter.  Chief Motylinski reported as well on the meeting and stated this will be ongoing.    


Trustee Jaworski:  None


Trustee Sontag:  Treasurer Sontag reported on a Revenue Sharing Estimates and Adjustments handout she prepared showing the Original, Revised and Gain/loss projection for Revenue Sharing income for the 2020/2021 fiscal year.  At the present time the state is estimating $220,948 in revenue sharing and our current fiscal year budget was estimated at $215,000.  With this being said we will only have $5,948 (approximate) excess over our budget amount.  Treasurer Sontag wanted the board to understand that these are only estimates and are subject to change as the COVID-19 fallout is realized. 


Clerk Salenbien:  Clerk Salenbien reported the Absentee Applications for the August 4th election have been mailed to our registered voters who are on my permanent absentee voters list.  The State will be mailing out absentee applications to all the remaining registered voters in Dundee Township.  Clerk Salenbien wanted to make it clear that anyone who receives an application for Absentee must sign and return it to the clerk’s office to receive a ballot.  The auditors have started the audit.   



Draft Letter to Commissioners: Supervisor Uhl reported she and Chief Motylinski had reviewed the “Draft” letter to the Monroe County Board of Commissioners and were looking for some additional input from board members before sending the letter out.  Chief Motylinski reported his biggest concerns were the safety, liability and additional costs to the township due to some of these changes. 

Chief Motylinski shared additional concerns regarding:  CAD system being implemented and re-occurring fees associated with them, dispatch changes regarding “Box Alarm” system, equipment/manpower, minitors turnout gear, the unbalance board (law enforcement/firefighters) who determined these changes and grants.  Chief Motylinski felt these items needed to be strengthened in the Draft letter.  Supervisor Uhl will include copies sent to all our State representative officials as well as local representative.  After discussions, Trustee CJ moved to authorize Supervisor Uhl to make the changes as discussed by the board in the Draft letter and send it out.  Treasurer Sontag supported.  Motion carried.     Chief Motylinski reported he has two new applicants for firefighters. 



MCRC Discussions:  Supervisor Uhl reported on the Kimpton Road culvert/road issue due to the recent flooding.  The road commission feels this will be a simple fix. 

Gloff Road Repairs:  Supervisor Uhl reported on the plan received from the MCRC to fix this issue on Gloff Road.  The plan will require an easement across Ed Rueh’s property to a county drain.  The estimate for materials alone is $15,600 and the Labor is $12,000 - $15,000.  This would eliminate the pump and pit that is currently there.  Because this work would be done through our Gradall funds, no contract is needed.  This is a road/drainage issue and the MCRC will be doing the work. 

Totten Road Drainage:  Supervisor Uhl reported due to ongoing flooding issues by Mr. Zuchowski’s house on Totten Road, the MCRC has presented a plan to help with this drainage issues.  This would require crossing private property to a county drain to the north of Totten Road.  Supervisor Uhl reported the cost for this would be approximately $15,000.  Treasurer Sontag inquired about the work only benefitting one resident.  Supervisor Uhl reported Joe Schumaker has looked at this issue and verified it is in need of repair to help the road.  Trustee Travis brought up the drain cleaning project that will be done on the Libstaff/Lenawee Drain (originating in Lenawee County) which is in close in proximity to the area in question and perhaps this work could be done at the same time this ditch cleaning occurs by the same contractor.  Supervisor Uhl will contact the drain commission regarding this.  Because the estimate for this work is over the limit the project would need to be put out for bids. If this work is done, it will be with gradall funds.     



Clerk Salenbien inquired about our Ordinance Officer replacement and the status.  Clerk Salenbien reported she had given Supervisor Uhl the name of an individual who may be interested.  Supervisor Uhl reported she was waiting for Trustee CJ to obtain the name of another individual who may also be interested.  Both candidates will be interviewed by Supervisor Uhl and she will make a recommendation to the board. 


Trustee Lazette inquired about an individual on the Accounts payable register. 


Motion made by Trustee Travis supported by Clerk Salenbien to pay the bills from 5/21/2020 in the amount of $12,989.25.  Motion carried.   


Motion made by Trustee Lazette supported by Treasurer Sontag to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 8:46p.m.    The next meeting will be Tuesday, June 9, 2020.
