DUNDEE TOWNSHIP

REGULAR MEETING

June 12, 2018

 

The Regular Meeting of the Dundee Township Board was held Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the Dundee Township Hall.  Supervisor Uhl called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.    The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.  Roll call of officials was taken:  Supervisor Uhl, Treasurer Sontag, Clerk Salenbien and Trustees:  C.J. Horkey, Gary Lazette, Travis Horkey and Ken Jaworski were present.  Treasurer Sontag moved to approve the agenda and Trustee Lazette supported.  Motion carried.   Trustee CJ moved to approve the Regular Meeting minutes of May 8, 2018 and waive the reading of such.  Treasurer Sontag supported.  Trustee Jaworski abstained.  Motion carried.  Trustee Lazette moved to approve the April 2018 Treasurer Report.  Clerk Salenbien supported.  Motion carried.  Trustee CJ moved to approve the correspondence and waive the reading of such.  Treasurer Sontag supported.  Motion carried. 

 

Skip Dimco, a representative of the Dundee Veterans Association spoke about the “Flags over Veterans” fund raiser throughout the County.  Currently, there are 40 cemeteries without flag poles in Monroe County.   Individuals or organizations may contribute towards the costs.  Dundee Township has one cemetery “Lieb” that does not have a flagpole.  Mr. Dimco reported our local VFW will be doing the work to place a flagpole and light at Lieb cemetery and will also place solar lights on the flagpoles in Oakgrove and Maplegrove cemeteries.  Trustee CJ moved to approve the “Flags over Veterans” organization to install a flagpole and light at a location agreed to by the Sexton at Lieb Cemetery and add lights to the flagpoles at Maplegrove and Oakgrove Cemeteries. Trustee Lazette supported.  Motion carried. 

 

PUBLIC COMMENT:  None

 

OFFICIAL REPORTS: 

Library Report:  Jennifer reported circulation is down by 300 items and all branches are down in numbers.  Program attendance is up.  The summer reading program is underway.  Jennifer reported that she is now the new Supervisor of the Petersburg Library branch as well as Dundee and Maybee.    

 

Assessing Department: None

 

Building Department:  Dennis Kolar reported he and Supervisor Uhl had met to discuss bringing the parcel located at 10720 Tecumseh Road into compliance.  A monthly permit list from the start of 2018 was presented to the board.  Dennis said all inspector’s registrations must be updated by September 16th.  The circus permits were discussed.  There will be a ZBA meeting on Monday, June 18th

 

Supervisor Uhl:  None

 

Trustee C.J.:  Trustee CJ reported there were a total of 63 fire calls in April and 60 total calls in May, 2018.  Trustee CJ moved to approve an estimate from Patriots for brake repairs needed on #6 truck at a cost of $1,517.55.  Clerk Salenbien supported.  Motion carried.  

 

Trustee Lazette: Trustee Lazette reported he is following up with Darby’s and a contractor for a repair estimate for the steps at the library.   

 

Trustee Travis Horkey:  None

 

Trustee Jaworski:  None

 

Treasurer Sontag:  Treasurer Sontag reported she has a Monroe County Treasurers meeting tomorrow.   Tax bills are being prepared and will be mailed on June 28th.     

 

Clerk Salenbien:  Clerk Salenbien, Supervisor Uhl and Treasurer Sontag met with the auditors to review the Draft audit.  There will be a county Clerk’s meeting on the 20th.   Clerk Salenbien will be meeting with the county IT person on the 18th at the firehall to review uploading of election information on election night process.  Absentee ballot applications have been mailed and ballots should be arriving soon to be mailed.  The two new computers will be installed this week.        

 

OLD BUSINESS:  

5249 Ann Arbor Road – Blight:  Supervisor Uhl commented on the lack of progress to clean up the blight conditions at 5249 Ann Arbor Road and the township’s right to come in, clean it up and transfer the cost to the property owner.  The board discussed different options to proceed.  Trustee CJ inquired when the redemption period expires.  Supervisor Uhl will contact the attorney for this information.  Trustee CJ moved to authorize Supervisor Uhl to seek bids for the clean-up of the Castelnero property located at 5249 Ann Arbor Road after talking to Fred Lucas for guidance and obtaining a defined scope of work.  Trustee Lazette supported.  Motion carried.  Once these have been received the board will discuss further. 

 

NEW BUSINESS: 

MTA 2018-2019 Dues:  Trustee CJ moved to approve payment of the MTA dues for the 2018-2019 year of $5,106.40.  Treasurer Sontag supported.  Motion carried. 

 

ANY OTHER ADDITIONAL BOARD COMMENTS: 

Trustee Travis inquired about the fire hall issues and quotes for the repairs.  Trustee CJ moved to authorize Trustee Lazette to gather bids for the needed repairs of caulking, plumbing and the air infiltration concerns at the fire hall.  Trustee Jaworski supported.  Motion carried.   Chief Motylinski will contact Chris Lane for some advice and recommendations. 

Trustee Travis inquired about the status of the Radka Road repairs.  Supervisor Uhl stated they are going to move the road and that the work will happen this year.  Supervisor Uhl will contact the MCRC for a schedule for the contracted work in our township.  Berm removal on Bigelow Road needs to be done to allow for drainage.  Supervisor Uhl will contact the MCRC to discuss.

 

Trustee Jaworski discussed getting a third party to review and compare insurance policies.  Supervisor Uhl stated she was looking into asking another insurance company for a proposal for comparisons. 

Trustee Lazette reported two Code-Red announcements will be going out soon.  One for the Mayfly Festival and one for the 4th of July Parade. 

 

Chief Motylinski reported he completed a grant application to submit for SCBA’s and is working on another one.  The new ladder fire truck ordered should be ready in about 4 to 6 weeks.  Chief Motylinski would like to honor and present a Resolution or Proclamation to Geri Lee at Pierce/Halt on his retirement.  Supervisor Uhl will follow up. 

 

Clerk Salenbien will contact the stripping company for the fire hall parking lot.  This needs to be done before the elections in August and November. 

 

Motion made by Trustee CJ supported by Clerk Salenbien to pay the bills from May 17, 2018, in the amount of $3,839.31.  Motion carried.    

 

Motion made by Trustee Lazette supported by Treasurer Sontag to pay the bills from June 7, 2018 in the amount of $57,061.48. 

 

Motion made by Trustee CJ supported by Treasurer Sontag to adjourn the meeting.  Motion carried.  The meeting adjourned at 8:32 p.m.
