A Regular Meeting of the Dundee Township Board was held Tuesday May 13, 2025. Supervisor Lewis called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. All present recited The Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Present were Trustees: Alana Horkey, Ken Jaworski, Tim Miles, Gary Lazette, Supervisor Lewis, and Treasurer Hunt. Clerk Ziesmer was excused. Treasurer Hunt did roll call.

 

  • Treasurer Hunt motioned to adopt the agenda, Trustee Lazette seconded. Motion carried.
  • Trustee Miles motioned to approve the minutes from the Special Meeting held on April 17, 2025. Trustee Jaworski seconded. Trustee Horkey and Treasurer Hunt abstained. Motion carried.
  • Trustee Lazette motioned to approve the minutes from the regular meeting held on April 22, 2025. Trustee Horkey seconded. Motion carried.
  • Treasurer Hunt motioned to approve the Treasurer’s Report for March 2025. Trustee Horkey seconded. Motion carried.

 

CORRESPONDENCE: Treasurer Hunt motioned to waive the reading of the five items of correspondence and place on file. Trustee Horkey seconded. Motion carried. Letter From Dundee Branch Library. DTE Public Hearing Notices. Michigan Gas Utilities Public Hearing Notice. Zoning Board of Appeals meeting minutes from April 21, 2025,

 

PUBLIC COMMENT: Dee Cowan discussed issues with Cemetery mowing and maintenance. Informed board of repetitive and ongoing damage from horses and tire tracks to the grass at her late husbands grave and requested the board look into be looked into. Expressed concern that the cemeteries were not mowed for Mother’s Day but satisfied they have since been maintained. Marilyn Larson also spoke about the cemeteries not being mowed for Mother’s Day and reminded Trustee Jaworski of the state statute that states which holidays cemeteries are required to be mowed. Kylie Zink addressed the board regarding ongoing safety and noise concerns between Dundee Products and Dundee Ridge subdivision.

 

OFFICIAL REPORTS

 

LIBRARY:  Jennifer from the MCLS came to the meeting to give an update

  • Statistics for March: Checked out 2700 items. 618 attendees for all programs including those were outside the building at daycares and schools.
  • The Environmental Grant for a new Drinking fountain has been approved.
  • Friends of the Dundee Library will be fully funding new blinds on the lower level of the library
  • MCLS is continuing adult book/game night through summer due to popular demand.
  • The ‘Color our World’ summer reading program will kick off Tuesday, June 17th, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
  • June and July calendars were distributed, highlighting all events hosted at the MCLS Dundee Branch.  
  • MCLS will be hosting giveaways for all ages again this year. Each book read gets an entry to many age specific giveaways.

 

ASSESSING: No report at this time

 

BUILDING DEPARTMENT: No report at this time

 

FIRE DEPARTMENT: April 2025 call report: 105 calls, 82 village, 17 Township, 6 Mutual Aid. Chief Motylinski completed a satisfactory final inspection on the new tanker and we will be taking delivery by the end of month.

 

TREASURER LISA HUNT: Gave update on 2024 tax closeout and 2025 tax set up.

 

TRUSTEE GARY LAZETTE: gave an update on Clean Up Day. 6 dumpsters were used compared to 5 last year. Expressed gratitude to Howard Cilley for the offer to donate to the township for drywall and paint expenses for the installation of the new fountain at the library and suggested a donation to Friend of the Library versus the Township for building maintenance costs that are the responsibility of the township.

 

CLERK KARLA ZIESMER: Excused

 

SUPERVISOR LEWIS: No report at this time.

 

TRUSTEE TIM MILES: No report at this time.

 

TRUSTEE KEN JAWORSKI: Addressed Dee Cowan’s concern regarding Horse hoof and tire damage to cemetery plots. Provided an update on the cemetery hamper clean up and thanked the fire department for their assistance. Suggested a new sign at the cemetery to clarify that any items brought in must be also be removed.

 

TRUSTEE ALANA HORKEY: Will be attending the ZBA meeting on Monday and will report back

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Treasurer Hunt motioned to approve Liquor Lawn Enforcement Training and Millage reimbursement to Ordinance Officer Nathan Reutz in the amount of $291. Trustee Miles seconded. Motion carried. 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

Trustee Miles motioned to approve the 2025 Roadside Mowing contract with the Monroe County Road Commission for the amount of $24,000. Trustee Horkey seconded. Motion carried. Trustee Horkey motioned to approve the 2025 Excess Right-of-Way contract with the Monroe County Road Commission in the amount of $50,000. Treasurer Hunt Seconded. Motion carried. Supervisor Lewis provided an update on the meeting with Financial Consultant Jim Beck. The Three focus areas discussed are in progress. Treasurer Hunt suggested the board consider utilizing Mr. Beck on an ‘as needed’ basis and implementing a ‘not to exceed’ budget instead of the current schedule that is set to expire in June. Treasurer Hunt suggested a discussion be had with Mr. Beck to verify interest in continuing to work on an as needed basis and requested the discussion of budget totals and scope of work be added to the next agenda.

 

Additional board comments:

  • Trustee Jaworski expressed concern in extending services with financial consultant and suggested the clerk and treasurer resort back to prior balancing practices versus learning and utilizing the current system.

 

Trustee Lazette motioned to pay bills from May 8, 2025 in the amount of $28,081.05. Trustee Jaworski seconded. Motion carried.

 

Trustee Jaworski motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m. Treasurer Hunt seconded. Motion carried.

 

The next meeting will be May 27, at 7:00PM.
